LWB Legal Status

Lightward Bound operated as a sole proprietorship, starting in December 2020. On 11 Sep 2026, the organization was incorporated and is now a Utah non-profit corporation.

In 2027, we expect to apply for tax-exemption with the IRS and be approved as a public charity under 501(c)(3) of IRS code. IRS allows up to 27 months after incorporation to receive tax-exemption status, which then becomes retroactive to the date of incorporation.

Up until this point, I have provided almost all the funding to pay for the website, produce materials for events, and so on.

Over the past year, I’ve had some volunteer help and a couple of hundred dollars in donations. That has been good to see, but to fully carry out the organization’s mission, it will take many more people and much greater funding. As a public charity, working to support the well-being of our community, financial and volunteer support need to come from the community at large.

Please contact us if you believe in Lightward Bound’s mission and are willing to help build the organization. Thank you,

Emil Therianos,
Founder and Chief Executive, Lightward Bound

NOTE: Lightward Bound operates as a tax-exempt organization in anticipation of its future official approval as such. Donations will become retroactively tax-deductible at the time when IRS approves our 501(c)(3) status.
